You'll commonly hear the advice to perform tick checks after spending time outdoors.
And while tick checks are always a good idea (I still do them!), I personally want to be on offense when it comes to tick bite prevention with my kids.
And this is why:
That's a photo I took of three teeny tiny ticks we grabbed while out on a tick drag with PhD students at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
They can be REALLY hard to detect and see.
This is why prevention is key.
We work with North Carolina-based Insect Shield to create our line of tick-repellent socks. They pretreat our cotton socks with permethrin, a synthetic compound designed to mimic the natural insecticide pyrethrum, found in chrysanthemum flowers.
Our socks are EPA-registered and have been proven to be effective at preventing tick bites. Notably, they are approved for wear by kids of all ages!
Stay vigilant, parents!
